ang mahal na señor
Posted on April 9th, 2009 5 commentsThis article is an excerpt from the book “Kasaysayan at Tala ng Bayan ng Lucban, Quezon” written by Pantaleon Nantes (+) and published in 1952. The author narrated a significant part of the history of Lucban about the Mahal na Senor or the image of the dead Christ, how it ended up in a pawnshop in Manila causing many illnesses to the townspeople and the ownership that was fought all the way to the Corte Suprema (Supreme Court) between the original owners led by the Lukban-Villasenor Clan and the present owners, the Rañola clan. It happened in 1892.

The Santo Sepulcro is under the care of the Rañola Family and is on display at their residence at the corner of Mabini and A. Racelis Ave. in Lucban. I will take a look more about your grandfather.

Dear Charles,
Your blog came as a pleasant surprise. I am a resident of Lucban for 11 years now, married to a Lucbanin, Ethet Salvanera Cu, the 4th daughter of Mrs. Edna Cabungcal Salvanera.
I was born and raised in Daet, Camarines Norte. My mother who, along with four other siblings were orphaned at a very early age, had very little memory of my maternal grandfather, Pedro Abuy and how he came from Lucban, a town in Quezon. The only clue that he left of his progeny, according to my mother was that he mentioned “San Agustin” as his place of origin.
Not being aware of my Lucbanin roots, and eventually marrying one…my curiosity was ressurected when we settled here 11 years ago. Though inquiring with the locals proved futile as there was no record of a barrio/barangay here in Lucban named San Agustin ( I was convinced there had been a mistake since barangays here bear ethnically Lucbanin names as Tiawe, May-it, Piis, Kalyaat etc.)I rested my cause and reckoned that I may never find my ancestors again.
Until I read the book you mentioned above, “Kasaysayan at Tala ng Bayan ng Lucban, Quezon” by Pantaleon Nantes.
It came to me that I could have been barking up the wrong tree all these years. Could it be that my grandfather, Pedro Abuy and two other sisters ( who were vaguely related to the late Tio Salvador “Ado” Abuy ) were actually related to Miguel De San Agustin? I have personally known General Justo Lukban’s descendants in Daet but never saw through the connection.
It is in this concern that I would like to implore your assistance regarding my query. I would appreciate the tiniest bit of information on how Miguel De San Agustin migrated to Daet, Camarines Norte and how he could be related to other Lukbanin migrants who went with him in 1863.
Hoping for your reply to my post.
Raymond Abuy Cu
