Many people always get the wrong impression of San Isidro being the patron saint of Lucban.  Unfortunately he is not but Saint Louis Bishop of Tolousse is (San Luis Obispo).

Colors of Kiping

Pahiyas wouldn't be complete without the kiping, the most important element of the festival. It is from these leaf-like wafers, which are adorned and arranged to form all sorts of shapes like arangya (chandeliers), orchids and flowers, that makes the Pahiyas one of the most colorful festivals in the Philippines.

Kiping is made from ground rice flour so it is edible. It can be fried or roasted and looks like kropeck when done. It's like tacos from Spain - thin, crunchy, brittle and delicate to handle. And how does it tastes? It's tasteless so syrup or vinegar must be on the side for dipping.

Route Map 2012

Pahiyas 2012 Route Map is already available!

The route of the Pahiyas Festival changes every year to give other houses their chance to decorate aside from the fact that expenses for the kiping and other ornaments will drain one's savings. In the morning of the Pahiyas Festival, the procession of the image of San Isidro will pass along this route, as if blessing the families and for bountiful harvest during the coming planting season. Early morning is the best time to watch the Pahiyas decoration as there are very few people watching and roaming the Pahiyas route and you can see the houses in full view.
